They have suddenly made an appearance on the main Truro roundabout, lurking amongst the grass and flowers.
They are in fact, the first thing you see on entering the city boundary.
The 'adorable hedgehogs', so named by the local paper, are the brainchild of Truro City Parks Department , who keep our city looking beautiful all year.
We have wild flower beds along the main roads, roundabouts full of flowers, and hanging baskets gracing our Cathedral.
The hedgehogs are designed by Emma Scott and made from coppiced wood by her Cornish company, Mellingey Mill Willow craft. They have been made ''to raise awareness about hedgehogs in our environment, and to encourage people to make Truro wildlife friendly.''
They are rather appealing, don't you think?
People have been reminded not to cross the very busy road to admire them but just to gaze from afar.
I have a feeling that there will be someone who writes to the local paper stating that they are a distraction and a danger to motorists.
I have no idea which is which, or why they have been named as they are.
But I do wonder if at night, when all is quiet, they go for a little trot around the city....

Those Hedgehogs are so cute. I'm glad you showed them in their places because when I saw the first picture I thought they were much smaller. As big as they are they are less likely to be stolen ( or isn't that a concern where you live?) Here there seems to be a petty crime element that has nothing better to do than mischief ( and sometimes, worse). We have recently installed floodlights that light up our entire front yard dusk to dawn.
Seeing a hedgehog in the wild would be quite a treat. Oh my roundabouts in the USA are so dismal compared to England. They don't make them large enough and people can't deal well with just going with the flow. They feel they need to stop instead of just flowing. oye. I would be distracted by those hedgehogs!
These hedgehogs are handsome works of art, and I do love hedgehogs. How nice your city is displaying them.
Those are gorgeous. It's great when there is imagination in enhancing our villages, towns ans cities.
They are a delight to see, a real joy.
They are cute...as long as they don't walk around. lol
One never knows what magical things happen when night descends in Truro. They are handsome fellows, those hedgehogs, and I do hope they aren't too much of a distraction for drivers.
I love that your town has spaces for wildflower along the roadways and gussies up the roundabouts. Love those hanging baskets on the cathedral. It all adds to the beauty of the place you call home.

I do hope people get the message about encouraging hedgehogs into their gardens; we are losing them at an alarming rate. I have a regular hedgehog visitor, a female who brought her hoglets on several evenings to sample the water, dog food and crushed dog biscuits I put out for them. They are very noisy eaters!
They are adorable fellows with a good message that I hope people take to heart. Two of our granddaughters (including the current 6 week old) have enormous amounts of hair that poke outwards every which way, sparking the nickname Miss Tiggywinkle, perhaps the most famous hedgehog of all.
I do know that Beatrix Potter's character is Mrs. Tiggywinkle, but these little girls are "miss's".
