When I first read the headlines about Iceland decorating Hot Cross buns with a tick instead of a cross, I wondered, just for a moment, why the country of Iceland would be so interested in a very British food.
Then I realised it was the British company known as Iceland.....
Above ,we have some perfectly normal Hot Cross buns, eaten during Easter to remember the Crucifixion of Jesus, once traditionally eaten on Good Friday (but nowadays any time from February onwards)And here we have the Hot Tick buns. A step too far?
Or as my grandma used to say..''I don't know what the world is coming to''.

Well that's certainly odd. Was any explanation given for the reason? Hot cross buns are eaten here, too, and have been in the bakeries for several weeks now. The tics just seem weird.
Blasphemous, in my opinion. Anti-Christian, anti-tradition. I hope no one buys them!
Jo
Oh dear! If you don't want a bun with a cross on it, buy a fruited teacake! (Don't get me started on chocolate or cheese hot cross buns!!!)
There are no more hot cross buns if they put tics on them.
I agree with your Granma, what on earth is thee world coming to?
I'm with Kirstenm - if a person doesn't want a bun with a cross on it, buy a plain raisin bun.
I love Hot Cross buns - yum!
I don't like all this change. It can't be the age as I'm only 52. Somethings should just not be messed with.
I rather hope people will avoid buying Hot Tick Buns.
I think they might have gone a step too far. If you don't want a hot cross bun don't purchase them.
God bless.
What reason could there be except to make a statement? Sigh . . .
Oye! I'm with your grandma!
Hmmm... I'm not sure if I care either way since I don't know that I've ever had a hot cross bun, and I didn't realize before this post that they are symbolic of the cross Jesus was crucified on. I do have to say, if I were to eat one, I'd prefer one with more frosting than that little check mark provides. It's a fail in my book for messing with tradition and a well-loved food.
I think I'm also in the camp of ' if you don't want a cross on your bun have a tea cake instead'. Personally I enjoy a proper hot cross bun and the traditional meaning behind the decoration.
