Parasols.
Not the big beachy ones, but the beautiful lacy, frilly ones that were
co ordinated with a lady's outfit, becoming such a fashion accessory.
This is one of the most well known parasol paintings, by Monet.
And this one, by Albert Edelfelt, a Finnish painter.
Isn't it just the perfect colour to go with her shawl?
Look at the way the tree blossoms are silhouetted on the fabric.
There is a purpose to these Parasol paintings, and that is to show you my very own Victorian style parasol.
Bought for me by my daughter around fifteen years ago, it has rather languished in a box since we returned from France.
But yesterday the sun spent the day with us, hotter than any other day, I think, and Parasol made its reappearance in my English garden.
I lay in my lounger chair , gazed at the blue blue sky, and relaxed...just for a wee while.
The parasol was a perfect sunblock.
Then again.... a little quilty Sunbonnet Sue parasol!
Maybe I should be sewing.
The weekend here is known as August Bank Holiday, and is a favourite time for tourists to take their last holiday in Cornwall.
Roads are gridlocked, beaches are full.
But the weather is amazing.

I adore parasol's and have several. When I use them at craft festivals, the catty remarks are tough to deal with but maybe they're just jealous...eh?
There is something so elegant about a parasol. I have noticed, recently, quite a number of women carrying parasols in downtown Victoria - mainly around Chinatown where the shops carry very pretty coloured parasols. I have two and was very glad to carry one to a summer wedding!
A wonderful post. We don't use parasols here and seldom umbrellas, though I carry an umbrella in the car. You surely most have looked as pretty as a picture underneath your parasol.
Another common passion: parasols. Just yesterday, I dusted the one with the bird head, a bit like the one I imagined, Mary Poppins must have had.
We could be in Cornwall right now but decided not to --- if you go down to Mullion Cove you can meet my brother ;-)

Your parasol is beautiful. I don't know if it's the same in England, but here we call that Battenburg lace - I've always loved it.
I hear the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be visiting Cornwall soon. I wonder if they'll be anywhere near you?

What a beautiful Parasol - I've now fallen out with my gaudy red, yellow and blue panelled parasol that I use when the sun is at its hottest! I am so pleased we had some lovely summer weather here in Cornwall in the last week - my family were here for a visit and for the first time in ages, they didn't have rain every day!!! We went out and about, enjoyed sunbathing in my garden and even did lots of work removing a line of too-high conifers from one of the garden boundaries; these have now been replaced by a fence and I have plans on what I shall plant in front to disguise it. More work . . . !
That's a beautiful parasol, I have seen pictures of them hanging from ceilings to be admired in bedrooms but it's even better to see one doing it's rightful job so well. Wasn't that a scorcher weekend!

I loved that painting where the blossom shadows were on the parasol...I am amazed at the talents God gives us and that all reflect back to him....because he is the Creator of all.
