A day for soup.

There was frost on the lawn this morning. It's been a very cold few days.
Thoughts always turn to bowls of piping hot soup in cold weather, but my vegetable stock was low.
So I went a mile or so down the road to a little vegetable/fruit/bread/flower stall, which is very popular. It's on the side of the road in a layby and has been running for as long as I can remember.

The vegetables are all grown locally, though of course fruit is bought in. Nothing is plastic wrapped and it is all so fresh. Today I bought cauliflowers, red cabbage, leeks, purple broccoli, shallots, swede, and some apples.
And then I came home and made Leek and Potato soup.

Just leeks, potatoes, butter, salt, pepper,
stock and a little milk.
Finished with a swirl of Creme Fraiche.

So deliciously warming!

Oh, that does look delicious. How nice to have that veggie stand just down the road. Our pop up farmer's markets will start up again in March...

I'd love to have access to a stall like that! Home made soup is a real comfort food in this weather

I'm another reader that wishes for a little fruit and vegetable stand nearby. Soup is on the menu here for supper as well. I find it is a great way to eat my veggies and warm up at the same time.

Your soup looks and sounds so good . . . I agree nothing's as good on a cold day as a hot bowl of soup.
