Podcasts

What is a podcast?, asked my husband.

Although I have heard the term I couldn't really give an answer, so of course turned to Wikipedia. As you do.

They tell me..

'A podcast is an episodic series of digital files that a user can download on a personal device and listen to at a time of his own choosing'

The word recently came up in conversation with dear friends whom we have known for many years. They now live in Herefordshire after many years in Cornwall, and of course we miss them.

Knowing that my very sight impaired husband uses one of these to listen to Talking books.....

our friends decided that they would send a regular 'chat' from them to us. Sometimes it's family news, sometimes general, but the ones my husband loves are the 'walks'.
Our friends worked out a way of taking a recorder on a walk and describing the lovely countryside of Herefordshire as they walk. We have been through daffodil woods, through farmland, over bridges and we have visited beautiful churches and local buildings. Sound effects, such as birdsong and opening and closing of farm gates , make the walk even more real.

The chat, or now as we think we can call it, the podcast, comes on a small memory stick which slots into the player.

We are so privileged to have such kindness and it is always a special day when the postman comes with a 'chat'! It's almost like having our friends close at hand.

I have no idea why there is a white background.

What a great idea!! I can imagine how lovely it is for your husband (and yourself) to listen to these podcasts especially the walks with lovely commentary.

That is such a thoughtful action, bringing so much joy. Regarding the white background - this MIGHT be caused if you type your post elsewhere [eg in word] and then paste it into your blog format. It often happens if people copy&paste a poem or something from another source. The easiest way to deal with it is to select all the text you want to paste, and then click "clear formatting" in the 'style' options. Then you should be able to paste it without white backgrounds. But I am guessing here, based on my own blog format - it might have another cause!!
