It's difficult not to sound critical at the moment. Actually I feel enraged, saddened and unable to understand my fellow human beings (some of them).
So often we have been warned about the dangers of a new spike of the virus if we are careless about Social distancing.
Yet these are pictures of Bournemouth beach during one of the hottest days of the year this week. Not only in Bournemouth, but in Brighton and as far West as beaches in Cornwall, the same idiotic and risky behaviour reigned.
Behind the sunbathers, all half a million of them on the same beach, there lay a trail of disgusting litter.
Today volunteers have been clearing tonnes, not just a few bags, but tonnes, of rubbish, including old BBQs , beach chairs, food and so on.
There are comments from politicians, such as
'it's been a hard 3 months in lockdown'....
'People need an escape valve'
We look back to the 5 years of wartime.
No Social media.
No Zoom.
No lessons on line.
Very little food. No supermarket deliveries.
Queues a mile long for 2 oz butter etc.
Husbands fighting away.
Children evacuated.
Bombs falling.
It makes me sigh when three months lockdown is regarded as an excuse for the appalling and risky behaviour of some of the population.

It's total madness isn't it? Why would anyone want to join that crowd I can't think of anything less appealing than lying on hot sand under the blazing sun with nothing to provide any shade and being cramped together with so many opther poeple - I think a friend had a good idea when she invited me to her garden where she had a deckchair reserved along side the paddling pool for me and would I like a Pimms whilst I sat there? She knew of course I wouldn't be making the 2 or 3 hour train journey anyway but it engendered some fun correspondence and another friend suggested putting some pebbles in the pool to make it more realistic too so we all had a fun time and no breaking of social distancing! Truly imagination is a wondrous thing!!

My daughter and family went up to Wells Beach yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm. There were some, not many, people there. They sat close by the water and Rosie and her dad went swimming. When they walked back to the car later, Liz picked up litter - including a disposable nappy - filling her carrier bag. It's so sad that other parents don't set a similar example to the children.
It seems that we are not prepared for hard times, doesn't it? Your comparisons to war times illustrate just how ill-prepared we really are.
There is no excuse for pig-like behaviour! :(
This is just what I needed to hear.....not that I'm thinking of going into any crowds any time soon.
I am discouraged about being home all the time. But as you say....we are not going hungry, we are safe in our homes, ...there are so many reasons to be happy at home.

Our beaches have re-opened, but it seems people are staying far apart still.
It reminds me of Florida beaches during March's Spring Break. Every year. As my hubs says, People are pigs.
This just does not make sense. Common sense seems to be very uncommon these days. There's no understanding people and certainly not governments ( politicians) either.
It's the same here in the States. Very frustrating because every time this happens, there is a setback. Florida has a huge resurgence of cases because of scenes just like the one you showed here.

I live in a small population state in the US. Things have opened up but Covid cases are soaring. My husband and I have put ourselves back in isolation though we really don’t want to.
It's understandable your concern and frustration...indeed, the trashed beeaches alone would do this. 😥 It is a very difficult time and we live now in a society that is much worse behaved than 70 years ago 😥 Lord have mercy on us!
It is the same here, people have gone completely crazy. I am just hoping they come to their senses before we have another spike.

I completely agree with you, it's very worrying. we have resisted the temptation to go to Brighton (or anywhere else for that matter) we feel this lockdown liftoff is too soon and is not being managed - why can't local councils ban incoming traffic and parking in seaside towns to make it less desirable for example; how disappointing too that this Nation is incapable of sorting out their own litter.
I am with you fully. Why would they risk the spread of this deadly virus, the health of their families and friends for a day at the beach and there is never an acceptable excuse for littering. "Respect" is a forgotten word.
In the past "hard times" have brought people closer together. Neighbors and family looking out for one another's well being, these days it seems to only bring about a "me first" self centered attitude.

I couldn’t agree with you more! And here in the US we can’t get people to wear masks. Now we are facing closing down again. I have never opened up, still hunkering down and will continue to do so. Stay safe!
I live in Brighton and can vouch for the crowded beaches. 10 ton of litter was collected after the folks went home, can you believe it?
When I was younger there wasn't the litter there is now as there were no takeaways and my Mum would never have allowed me to eat in the street, it just wasn't done.
What a mess this lovely world is in.

Barbara, I completely understand how you feel. There is a saying that goes: You can't fix stupid. I feel like people that act like you mentioned are just thoughtless and stupid. I hope we are in for better days. {{HUGS}}

And in my Beloved Country, we are supposed to keep to Social Distancing, but Protests are allowed to go on and on and on and on.
There is still a World Wide Pandemic, and yet people are burning and trashing cities.
I have no words... -sigh-
