Essential journeys

On re-reading my last post it may have seemed as though I was being a bit hard on our wonderful Police force.
Not at all.
The Government guidelines are fairly clear about what counts as an essential journey, and our Police have the power to pull cars in and question the driver.
These are the guides as to what is permitted;
  • shopping for basic necessities, such as trips to the supermarket or other food stores, as infrequently as possible (social distancing still applies)
  • trips to pharmacies for any medical need
  • to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
  • travelling for work purposes, where the work cannot be done from home
Even with that clearly laid out we still have the occasions when, for example, the Police found a couple who had driven from Kent to Cornwall (around 300 miles) for.....
a 'mini-break'.

They were discovered sleeping in their car in Falmouth and as the car was neither insured nor taxed it was impounded, and the owners fined heavily. How frustrating to the Police force to know that people are deliberately flouting rules which are put in place to keep us safe.

So this is why our family and friends try hard to make only absolutely essential journeys, bringing the occasional medical needs.
It's hard for all of us but it will be over, one day.

I have absolutely no reason to leave home! I don't walk (I use a mobility scooter) so I can't exercise, other people shop for me and I'm the "old dear" everybody else helps. I really enjoy going out into the street to clap each Thursday evening. Who knew that the end of the drive could be so wonderful!

Thursday evenings are proving a great time to shout to (not at) the neighbours. Once our grandson is born I have resigned myself to the fact that a trip from Dorset to Manchester is not truly essential. I'll get to cuddle him, eventually!

It will be over one day!

By the way, the photo at the bottom of the page is so beautiful. Hydrangeas at Trebah Gardens. 😊

I'm hoping that it will be over soon!

Things will begin to change ever so slowly here come Friday evening with certain businesses reopening with many safety rules in place. Personally I think it's too early - our positive cases still grow daily along with more deaths. I definitely won't change my ways any time soon such as visiting a restaurant, despite the tables being fewer and further apart and everyone wearing a mask!!!! No hair salons opening yet so hats coming in handy - and still my garden is my favorite place to be.
Hugs - Mary

Nothing like putting more pressure on our police forces. It must be frustrating for them to deal with humanity day in and day out. Hopeful for the future...

Our provincial government is making plans now on which services can be re-opened. Dentists and hair salons then slowly other stores. They're saying casinos and bars will be a long wait but since we don't go to either that won't affect us.

BC made an announcement today about a gradual reopening over the next 4-6 months. They are being prudent, and so should we. We can begin to gather in tight groups, so for Mother's Day we will be getting together with family. Hooray!

Our gradual reopening has been announced to start mid-May. Details to follow. We've not been as restrictive here, but still encouraging social distancing, and no travel outside the community. It'll be interesting to see the impact as this moves forward. BTW, I shared part of your blog so others here will know how good we have it!

At the coronavirus press yesterday our Prime Minister and health minister announced the government’s plans to slowly reopen the country, step-by-step. I am glad with it.

oh I did not think you were being hard on them! More that they have to be a bit strong (is that the right term? having a hard time getting the right word). strange times we are in but it is wonderful that we can see beauty and have flowers, gardens. I hope your garden is going well! Still praying for you and your beloved Husband!!

Only essential trips here and now that Kris is on the mend perhaps those can be cut as well. I don't plan on going to Regina to see about cleaning his apartment for two weeks. Sure hope it isn't a disaster when I go.

God bless.

I didn't think you were being hard on them. They're just doing their job, as we all should in these times. I do get irritated when people flout the rules.

Yes, this too shall pass. I hope you have a lovely weekend, Barbara, puttering in your garden.

Little patches of colour

Despite the drought and the effect it has had on gardens, there is still some colour around. I have a dry brownish lawn but in the flower ...
